He is responsible for overseeing the efficient and accurate operation of the peeling machine for peeling borma kernels, color sorting machines used for sorting. The role ensures machine optimization, defect rejection accuracy, peelability of wholes and brokens, moisture content after humidification, quality output, proper manpower deployment, and adherence to food safety and hygiene standards. Key Responsibilities Machine Operation & Performance - Operate and supervise Meyer 120 LDS4/ KFS or equivalent color sorting machines. - Operate and supervise Peeling machines and humidification chamber. - Knowledge of machine parameters and compressor working. - Ensure correct setting of parameters (color shades, defects, sensitivities). - Ensure whole, broken, rejection percentage, also responsible for good peelability. - Coordinate with maintenance for daily check-ups, calibration, and timely repair. - Monitor defect rejection ratio and optimize sorter performance to achieve >98% accuracy. Quality Control - Maintain high-quality output by minimizing under- and over-rejection. - Conduct visual inspections and sampling to ensure consistency with quality standards. - Collaborate with QC team to validate kernel grades and identify sorting anomalies. Manpower Management - Lead and manage color sorter operators , peeling operators and helpers (typically 8-10 people). - Allocate manpower efficiently across shifts to meet daily production targets. - Train new workers on machine handling, hygiene, and SOPs. - Follow production planning & Reporting - Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly sorting targets are met as per the production plan. - Track input vs. output mass balance and report deviations. - Maintain logs of machine parameters, shift performance, rejections, and downtime. Hygiene & Safety - Ensure section cleanliness as per food safety (HACCP, BRC) norms. - Ensure all workers wear proper PPE and follow hygiene protocols. - Coordinate with the QA team for audits and corrective actions. KPIs - Sorting accuracy (% defects removed) - Machine downtime - Yield % - Labor productivity (kg/person/day) - Hygiene and audit score compliance KRA Summary – - Sorting Accuracy – ≥ 98% defect removal - Machine Uptime – ≥ 98% operational time - Throughput – Meet/exceed daily & monthly sorting targets (kg/day) - Yield – ≥ 98% good kernel recovery - Manpower Productivity – ≥ target kg/person/day - Hygiene Compliance – 100% adherence, zero non-compliance in audits - Re-sorting Cases – ≤ 2% rework due to poor initial sorting - Training & SOP Adherence – 100% operator training & SOP compliance - Reporting Timeliness – Daily reports submitted at the end of shift
