History

Founding and Early Years:

  • Infosys was established in Pune, Maharashtra, India, by seven engineers with an initial capital of $250.

  • On 2 July 1981, the company registered as Infosys Consultants Private Limited

  • In 1983, the company relocated to Bangalore, Karnataka.

Name Changes:

  • Renamed Infosys Technologies Private Limited in April 1992.

  • Transitioned to a public limited company in June 1992, becoming Infosys Technologies Limited.

  • Further renamed as Infosys Limited in June 2011.

Initial Public Offering (IPO):

  • Floated an IPO in February 1993 with an offer price of ₹95 per share.

  • Initially undersubscribed but was rescued by Morgan Stanley, acquiring a 13% equity stake at the offer price.

  • Listed on the stock exchange in June 1993, with shares opening at ₹145.

Nasdaq Listing:

  • On 1999, they were finally listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange as American depositary receipts (ADR).

  • And it became the first Indian company to be listed on Nasdaq.

  • ADR listing shifted from Nasdaq to NYSE Euronext to enhance accessibility for European investors.

Strategic Expansions:

  • Established a new office in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to provide services and facilities for Harley-Davidson which is one of largest America motorcycle manufacturers. With this deal, it allowed Infosys to ramp up their operations. 

  • In 2011, Infosys hired 1,200 U.S. employees and by 2012, it had expanded the workforce by 2,000 employees.

  • Announced expansion in Indianapolis, Indiana, in April 2018.

Financial Milestone:

  • On August 24, 2021, Infosys achieved a milestone of reaching a market capitalization of US$100 billion, becoming the fourth Indian company to reach this milestone.
