What is Michelin?
Michelin is a multinational tire manufacturing company based in Clermont-Ferrand, France. The company was founded in 1889 by two brothers, Édouard Michelin and André Michelin. In addition to tire production, Michelin also provides services related to tires such as maintenance and repair. Furthermore, Michelin is well-known for its system of rating the quality of restaurants and hotels worldwide.
What is the Michelin Star Award?
Today, Michelin has awarded Michelin Stars and Michelin Bib Gourmands to several restaurants in Vietnam. This is the first time that restaurants in Vietnam have been awarded Michelin stars or featured in the guidebook, serving as an inspiration for other restaurants and F&B businesses. This event is considered a milestone marking a new beginning for Vietnamese cuisine and tourism. In total, four restaurants in Vietnam were awarded Michelin stars in 2023.

The History of the Michelin Star
he history of Michelin dates back to the founding of Michelin, a tire company, by the Michelin brothers in 1889 in France. They quickly recognized that driving and travel were sustainable trends and decided to compile a small guidebook for travelers to promote car sales and tire purchases. It included maps, gas station locations, tire-changing instructions, accommodations, and, of course, a list of dining establishments.
Over time, they began categorizing restaurants into different categories, marking the beginning of the brand's growing influence in the culinary field. In fact, this guidebook became so popular that the brand began recruiting anonymous food enthusiasts to visit and evaluate restaurants.
Today, the Michelin Red Guide is a comprehensive list of top restaurants and hotels from around the world.
