Hi, I'm Kevin Quan. What can I tell you about myself and my values? Let's give it a shot. In my past life, I was one of the top headhunters at Randstad Professionals, a Dutch multinational firm. There are very few things in life that I take as a given, as long as I can observe where to apply pressure and influence outcomes. I moved to Vietnam in February of 2020 to shake things up and break out of my cozy corporate bubble. If I could make it in a country where I had no connections and spoke none of the language - I could make it anywhere. I have a rather heretical way of learning that ignores the usual limits imposed by society. Educational background, work experience, and instructions are not necessary to begin the next stage of growth. Real learning is intuitive and takes place in an unstructured environment, where you often only have a vision to go off of. You need to ask the right questions, answer them, organize into general concepts, and examine their interactive effects to ask even more complex questions. Sometimes it involves a little research. Once you have the conceptual answers, apply them in context to your goal (i.e., how do these answers apply to the apparel industry). Create a step-by-step practical procedure, and record it. Explain your thought processes, best use scenarios, and exceptions. Execute, and refine. It was through this approach that I grew my skills in content, design, branding, sourcing, setting up logistics, operations, strategy, and all of the functions involved in building a company. I have many personal hobbies, but I am most passionate about promoting holistic well-being and unorthodox thinking in everyday aspects of work and living. One day, I'd like to spread my ideas and message to the rest of the world by becoming a public speaker or media personality. Throughout my career, I’ve been obsessed with providing the best customer experience for everyone I serve and building strong support networks through community building. This has led me to go beyond my traditional role to truly understand what really happens in my patients’ lives. In my practice, I’ve nursed a patient at his home till the wee hours of the morning when he suffered two epileptic attacks, spent numerous hours providing warmth and comfort to a sexual abuse patient, and saved the life of a patient who came within 5 minutes of dying when fluid started to fill her lungs - none of which are part of the typical "job scope" of a community pharmacist. While I was not able to care for every patient on a daily basis, I realised that the patients who performed well had an extremely strong, supportive community to support them. I set out to build those communities so that care was more sustained. In 2014, I founded Success Alliance Enrichment to work with the government and private organisations who want to enhance mental wellness and reduce health costs by building mental health competencies, especially in our youth. We have now built a supportive mental health community through our work with more 70 organisations and impacted thousands of individual through our programmes in smoking cessation, youth peer support and mental wellness. I designed a nationwide youth smoking cessation counselling programme and trained more than 10 batches of new smoking cessation counsellors for the Singapore Armed Forces. Winner of the prestigious Singapore Retailers’ Association Young Executive of the Year Award, proud believer in 2nd chances as a volunteer at the Singapore Prisons Service, and former captain of the Singapore National Junior Squash Team.
