Job Summary The Hull Structural Basic Design Engineer is responsible for the development of structural design solutions for marine vessels at the basic design stage. This includes structural calculations, compliance with class rules, and design of key structural components such as equipment foundations and lifting arrangements. Responsibilities - Perform structural design and calculations for hull structures in compliance with applicable classification society rules and regulations. - Develop structural design solutions based on class requirements, project specifications, and engineering best practices. - Design equipment foundations and carry out strength calculations to ensure structural integrity and load distribution. - Prepare lifting plans, lifting lugs, and jig designs, including relevant strength and safety calculations. - Ensure timely delivery of engineering outputs in line with project schedule. Additional Responsibilities - Prepare and review structural drawings, including general arrangement, midship section, and key structural details. - Conduct weight estimation and structural optimization to meet performance and cost targets. - Coordinate with other disciplines (Outfitting, Piping, HVAC, Electrical) to ensure integrated design. - Support class submissions and respond to comments from classification societies (ABS, DNV, BV, etc.). - Assist in risk assessments and design reviews, including constructability considerations. - Provide technical support to detailed design and production teams. - Manage design changes and ensure proper documentation and revision control.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field. - From 3-5 years of experience in shipbuilding, offshore structures, or marine engineering is an advantage. - Strong knowledge of hull structural design principles and structural analysis. - Familiarity with classification society rules (ABS, DNV, BV, LR, etc.). - Ability to perform hand calculations and use engineering tools/software for structural analysis. - Experience with design software (e.g. AutoCAD, AVEVA Marine, or similar) is an advantage. - Understanding of material properties, load cases, and failure modes in marine structures. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. - Attention to detail and high level of accuracy. - Good communication and teamwork abilities. - Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Preferred skills and experiences
- Experience in basic design for naval or commercial vessels. - Familiarity with FEM/FEA tools (e.g. ANSYS, NASTRAN, SACS). - Experience in lifting analysis and temporary structure design.
